Holidays today are about having/building a positive attitude, promoting awareness/action regarding protecting the environment, caring for local trails, gingerbread, hot air balloons, and Black Bears: Hot Air Balloon Day National Attitude Day National Black Bear Day National Gingerbread Day National Trails Day World Environment Day Living in New Jersey, I initially thought National Attitude Day was about people with "attitude", a certain mix of confidence/confrontation that some New Jerseyans have, but it's really about fostering a positive attitude. Parts of North Carolina traditionally have a festival around those large animals in many eastern US localities, the Black Bear.
