Dodecahedron Day - May 12

Today is a day to celebrate the  regular dodecahedrons . The regular dodecahedron is one of the  platonic solids . A regular dodecahedron is formed by putting 12 identical equal-sided pentagons together into a convex polyhedron . It will have 20 vertices, 12 faces, and 30 edges. (A non-regular dodecahedron can consist of any polyhedron with 12 faces with a variety of vertices and edges.) Icosahedron Day

Today is a day to celebrate the regular icosahedrons . The regular convex icosahedron is one of the  platonic solids , though there is also a regular concave icosahedron named the Great Icosahedron . A regular icosahedron is formed by putting 20 identical equilateral triangles together into a convex or concave  polyhedron . It will have 12 vertices, 20 faces, and 30 edges. (A non-regular icosahedron would can consist of any polyhedron with 20 faces with a variety of vertices and edges.) Octahedron Day - March 8

Today is a day to celebrate the least-sided of the  platonic solids , the  regular octahedron . A regular octahedron is formed by putting 8 identical equilateral triangles together into a convex  polyhedron . It will have 6 vertices, 8 faces, and 12 edges. (A non-regular octahedron would can consist of any polyhedron with 8 faces, and could have as many as 12 vertices and 18 edges.) The regular octahedron is also a square  bipyramid  where all the faces are equilateral triangles. A bipyramid is a polyhedron with a polygon as a base where each vertex connects to another point on a different plane as the base, and does the exact same thing on the other side of the base.  We celebrate octahedrons on March (3rd month) 8 because it's composed of 8 triangles (3-sided polygons). Tetrahedron Day - March 4

Today is a day to celebrate the least-sided of the platonic solids , the regular tetrahedron . A regular tetrahedron is formed by putting 4 identical equilateral triangles together into a convex polyhedron . A non-regular tetrahedron would still consist of 4 triangles, but they would be different sizes and shapes. The tetrahedron is also a type of pyramid . A pyramid is a polyhedron with a polygon as a base where each vertex connects to another point on a different plane as the base. Many of the pyramids built by people use a square base, and thus are not tetrahedrons. Every tetrahedron is a pyramid, but not every pyramid is a tetrahedron. We celebrate tetrahedrons on March (3rd month) 4 because it's composed of triangles (3-sided polygons), and 4 of them.
