Safer boats/ships, teddy bears, flannel, cream cheese brownies, and umbrellas are celebrated today: National Cream Cheese Brownie Day National Flannel Day Plimsoll Day Teddy Day Umbrella Day An English social reformer, Samuel Plimsoll, was born on this date in 1824. He would go on to push for laws/regulations that improved the safety of commercial shipping. Apparently gifting a loved one with a teddy bear is a thing, so Teddy Day is one of the Valentine's Day holiday prequels. Though I usually think of snow (for which I do not use an umbrella) rather than rain (for which I do) this time of year, we celebrate umbrellas today.
