Kiss a Shark Day - January 10

Okay, admittedly this isn't the most responsible holiday anybody has ever created, but somebody did it. (There are a fair number of holidays endorsing questionable, maybe even dangerous behavior. Always exercise some judgment when deciding whether/how to celebrate.)

Perhaps it would be better to show affection for sharks by supporting environmental and oceanic policies that protect them and their habitats rather than physically smooching with one.

Tracking sharks and other marine/aquatic animals to learn about their behavior is something we can do pretty well by now; check out this link to find an animal (including sharks) near you.

As I've (more or less) successfully managed yet another trip around the sun, so lets discuss what happened. This should be similar to what I did in 2022 and 2023 , so if those bored you nearly comatose you should be warned that this will be more of the same. Photographic evidence that I exist. Superb Owl Sunday - First Sunday in February

Note : Superb Owl Sunday is the 2nd Sunday in February starting in 2023. Today is Superb Owl Sunday! It's a day to celebrate how superb owls are. (Apparently a football league has repositioned a couple letters as the inspiration for their championship game , but obviously this is of secondary importance to owls.) Most owls are the "night shift" of predatory birds, though it's not unheard of for some to be active in daylight. A Snowy Owl that's visited Central Park was definitely a superb owl. Here are a couple education owls residing at The Raptor Trust in central New Jersey. Semiperfect Numbers Day - December 18

Happy Semiperfect Numbers Day!  While perfect numbers are numbers that are equal to the sum of all their proper divisors, semiperfect numbers are equal to the sum of some of their proper divisors. (Yes, this means that all perfect numbers are also semiperfect numbers.) Similar to perfect numbers, semiperfect numbers don't seem to have a lot of application but are more of numerical oddities.
