Rubber Duck Armada Day - January 10
On this date in 1992 a shipment of yellow rubber ducks and other bath toys (red beavers, blue turtles, and green frogs) were caught in a storm and fell overboard. Designed to float in a bathtub, many of them have been floating around in the ocean ever since.
While this is partly a story of plastic pollution in our oceans, some good has come out of the so-called friendly floaties. As they've washed up on shores, they've helped us learn about oceanic currents.
